Women’s Pelvic Health

If you are 18 years or older and are a woman/female pelvis owner experiencing new or longstanding bladder, bowel or sexual health issues or pelvic pain, I can work with you.

Along with treating symptomatic conditions, pelvic floor therapy can also be preventative. Why wait until you are experiencing bladder leakage after having a baby or worsening prolapse symptoms before seeking care?

Participating in pelvic floor therapy before you experience any signs or symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction will empower you with the tools and information you need to prevent potential, future issues and know how to seek assistance should issues arise at any point in your life.

Women who are planning to conceive and want to prepare for pregnancy and childbirth can benefit from pelvic floor therapy prior to conception to better understand their baseline functioning and address any issues before becoming pregnant.

  • Lengthening the pelvic floor muscles + perineal massage training to minimize tearing

  • Labor and birth positioning considerations

  • Pushing techniques

  • Preparing for recovery during the 4th Trimester

Postpartum Rehabilitation

Pelvic floor and core rehabilitation can start as early 2 weeks postpartum, starting with simple strategies to start reconnecting to your core and pelvic floor and learn to protect these vulnerable parts of the body while they are healing.

Early postpartum services include:

  • Home visits

  • Pelvic floor + abdominal muscle assessment and re-training

  • Safe return to exercise with corrective exercise instruction

  • Postural and body mechanic considerations for baby care-giving tasks to protect your healing pelvic floor and core and to prevent neck, shoulder, wrist and low back aches and pains.

Whether you had your baby 2 or 20 years ago, we can address any pelvic floor issue that may have developed during pregnancy or after birth including, leaking, prolapse, pelvic pain or diastasis recti, that have persisted years later.

Occupational Therapy & Pelvic Floor Therapy for Seniors

Axis Pelvic Floor Therapy and Wellness accepts traditional Medicare Part B insurance in New Hampshire and proudly works with women 65+ experiencing a variety of pelvic floor conditions associated with aging including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and pelvic organ prolapse. No one is ever too old to address and improve bladder, bowel or sexual health functioning.

As an occupational therapy practioner with an extensive background in general adult rehabilitation, I provide occupational therapy specific rehabilitation to older adults as well as pelvic floor therapy. For seniors, bladder, bowel and pelvic pain conditions can have a significant impact on daily functioning and ability to participate in meaningful, everyday tasks. My OT services include:

  • Specialized self-care (ADL/IADL) training

  • Home safety evaluations

  • Fall prevention

  • Environment modifications

  • Adaptive equipment needs related to self-care performance

I believe that all older adults should be able to age safely in place in the residence of their choice. I also believe that aging does not have to include living with conditions such as urinary incontinence. Occupational Therapy can help older adults remain safely in their homes, function independently and improve their quality of life.
